Childlike Faith Before Authority: Embracing God’s Love in Vulnerability

Childlike Before Authority: A Devotional on 1 Corinthians 13:11

When We Never Feel Grown

“When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.” (1 Corinthians 13:11)

Yet, how often do we truly feel we have put away childish things? Councils and wisdom remind us that when we stand before authority—our parents, supervisors, or anyone who holds sway over our lives—we’re transported back to that vulnerable space between the ages of five and fifteen. Our words catch in our throats, our confidence falters, and for a moment, we feel as small as ever, uncertain and seeking approval.

It’s as though we never truly grow up. No matter our years or achievements, in the presence of those with authority, the old doubts and insecurities can resurface. That’s why we so desperately need God’s love, hope, and encouragement. Only God can fill the aching gap, reminding us we are valued and seen, not because we are flawless, but because we are loved.

We lean into Christ’s gentle voice, which welcomes us as beloved children—no matter our age. Isn’t it comforting to trust that God’s love meets us right where we are, whether child or adult?

In John 5:1-9, we find a compelling story of healing at the Pool of. The passage introduces us to a who had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years, waiting for the waters to in hopes of being healed. When Jesus encounters him, He asks the man wants to be made whole, and with a simple command He tells him to rise, take up his bed, and walk. This miraculous event reminds us of the transformative power of faith and the importance ofizing opportunities for healing and renewal in our lives.
